ANDERSON, SC—Reason & Republic, a leading Education Management Organization, announces the appointment of Alan Barr as Executive Director of Belton Preparatory Academy. Barr brings over 30 years of educational experience to the school.

Before joining Belton Prep, Barr spent over five years at Tuscaloosa Academy in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he served as the Dean of the Upper School and Interim Head of School. During his tenure, he worked with faculty to improve curriculum, cultivate edifying extracurriculars, mentor teachers, and create an encouraging environment for students to achieve excellence in all spheres.

“I am thrilled to join the Belton Prep community,” said Barr. “Belton Prep already has so many accomplishments and I am excited to be part of the many more coming our way as we move forward as a school.”

A native of Richmond, Virginia, Barr attended Hampden-Sydney College where he studied managerial economics. He then earned his master’s in educational leadership from Longwood University. Over the course of his career, Barr served in both teaching and leadership capacities, acquiring extensive experience in curriculum, professional development, and school management.

Belton Preparatory Academy continues to top the charts, making it the #1 charter school in the state of South Carolina, the #1 Title I school in the state, and the #1 elementary school in Anderson County. Belton Prep received the Diamond School of Excellence Award from the Charter Institute at Erskine earlier this year, scoring in the top 10% of all elementary and middle schools in English language arts (ELA) and math on the South Carolina College-and Career-Ready Assessments (SC READY).

Established on the belief that educational excellence is possible for every child, Belton Prep launched in 2018 as South Carolina’s first classical public charter school and currently serves K5-6th grade. James Galyean founded Reason & Republic in 2017 and currently manages Belton Preparatory Academy, Summit Classical School, and the South Carolina Preparatory Academy—South Carolina’s first online classical public charter school.
