James is the Founder of Reason & Republic. A native of South Carolina, James recognized the need for an improved educational model in his home state. Tired of hearing people "talk" about change, James took action and founded Reason & Republic in 2017. Within a few short years, Reason & Republic students were achieving top academic rankings statewide. Belton Preparatory Academy, R&R’s inaugural school, is currently ranked the top performing Title I school in South Carolina.
James is an attorney by trade, and prior to founding Reason & Republic, he was a partner at South Carolina-based law firm Nexsen Pruet and served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of South Carolina. He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of South Carolina and the Supreme Court of the United States.
James earned his bachelor’s degree from Furman University and his law degree from the University of South Carolina. He and his wife Jenna live in South Carolina with their five children.
