INDIVIDUALIZED APPROACH

Reason & Republic Schools utilize an individualized approach to allow students and parents to measure current academic achievement levels, understand what needs to be accomplished to achieve future goals, and empower them with the tools they need for success.

CHARTER SCHOOLS

Charter schools are tuition-free public schools created to provide families with more options in public education. Open to all students, regardless of zip code or physical address, charter schools allow parents to take a more active role in choosing the best fit for their children’s education. Accountable to the performance standards agreed upon in their charter and by their communities, charter schools are truly designed to meet the needs of the children and families they serve.

A CLASSICAL EDUCATION

Classical Education curriculum focuses on the Trivium, a three-part process of training the mind that includes the Grammar Stage (Grades K-5), the Logic Stage (Grades 6-8), and the Rhetoric Stage (Grades 9-12).  Knowledge, reasoning, and self-expression are essential components of all three stages, with character development providing a solid foundation throughout.

THE GRAMMAR STAGE

The Grammar Stage provides the foundational building blocks for all other levels of learning. Children are particularly adept at memorization during the elementary school years, and easily absorb information presented in the form of songs and rhymes. During this stage, students focus on learning facts, with a particular emphasis on phonics, spelling, grammar, foreign language vocabulary, stories from history and literature, and mathematics. These facts provide the solid educational foundation students need to move on to the Logic Stage and Rhetoric Stages.

THE LOGIC STAGE

As students reach middle school, their minds become more adept at thinking analytically. They become less interested in finding out facts and more focused on asking “why?” and they begin to pay greater attention to cause and effect. During the Logic stage, students focus on the application of logic to all academic subjects. For example, the logic of reading involves the criticism and analysis of texts. The logic of history requires students to understand why historic events took place, and the logic of science introduces the scientific method.

THE RHETORIC STAGE

The Rhetoric Stage is focused on the art of communicating well in clear, elegant language. During this stage, students apply the rules of logic learned in middle school to the foundational information learned during the elementary grades to create organized statements and arguments that can be effectively communicated to others. Each subject has its own rhetoric, and great emphasis is placed on researching information, writing papers, and building oration skills to enable students to express themselves clearly when writing and speaking.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

Character development is an essential component of classical education. The classical model assumes that character can and should be shaped, and that character formation is a lifelong pursuit that continues well beyond instruction in the Trivium. Reason & Republic schools place the highest emphasis on ensuring that faculty and students display and demonstrate character and integrity, with the knowledge that what students learn now will guide them through the future.
